Supporting families facing one of life’s toughest tests
The Ruth Strauss Foundation is turning red again this summer, for its 5th consecutive year. With LV= Insurance, supporting The Ruth Strauss Foundation Men’s Ashes Test at Lord’s Cricket Ground 28 June – 2 July 2023.
Day two of the Test, Thursday 29 June, is our annual #RedforRuth Day which will see spectators, supporters, broadcasters, volunteers and sponsors turn red and raise funds to support families facing grief.
We are delighted that this year the build-up to #RedforRuth will start at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Saturday 24th June, which is day 3 of the Women’s Ashes – England v Australia. The perfect setting to light the torch on what we expect to be our biggest #RedforRuth to date, and brilliant opportunity to kick off a very special week of awareness and fundraising for the charity’s mission.

Our Mission
Here for families facing grief.
Ruth Strauss, wife of former England cricket captain Sir Andrew Strauss, was diagnosed with non-smoking lung cancer (NSLC) and died in December 2018; she was 46 years old and mother to two children, then aged 10 and 13. In her memory, Sir Andrew set up the Ruth Strauss Foundation, with its mission to support families facing the death of a parent.
The death of a parent can be one of the most traumatic events experienced by a child in their lifetime. Especially when children are unprepared and unaware of the impending death, this can negatively impact their psychosocial wellbeing.
The RSF Family Support team help families prepare for grief, death & dying by providing guidance to parents on how to start the difficult conversation with their children about their terminal cancer diagnosis. By encouraging families to maintain an open and honest dialogue, children avoid internalising questions, worries or fears, and are better able to create valuable moments & memories with their dying parent.
