We want to say a huge thank you to the legendary James Anderson for being such an amazing and loyal supporter of the Ruth Strauss Foundation.

It’s been an honour to see him playing at his final Test on #RedforRuth day, England vs. West Indies at Lord’s. To commemorate this historic moment, we have 50 Limited Edition Signed James Anderson prints available to buy.

All funds raised from the sale of these prints will help us to support more families who are facing the death of a parent and advocate for more research into non-smoking lung cancers.

#RedForRuth Match Funding

We are delighted that the first £75,000 we received on #RedforRuth day has been match funded by the Freddie Green & Family Charitable Trust. That means that when we hit our first £75,000 in donations received, we received a further £75,000 from the Freddie Green & Family Charitable Trust.
These funds will help us train 700 Health Care Professionals to support families who have a parent with incurable cancer so that the family can prepare together for the future. All donations received over the £75,000 will continue to support our work but will be used for our Family Support programme and other charitable work.

Our Mission

Here for families facing grief.

Ruth Strauss, wife of former England cricket captain Sir Andrew Strauss, was one of them. Ruth was diagnosed with non-smoking lung cancer and died in December 2018; she was 46 years old and mother to two children, then aged 10 and 13.

In her memory, Sir Andrew set up the Ruth Strauss Foundation, with its mission to support families facing the death of a parent.

The death of a parent can be one of the most traumatic events experienced by a child in their lifetime. Especially when children are unprepared and unaware of the impending death, this can negatively impact their psychosocial wellbeing.

The RSF Family Support team help families prepare for grief, death & dying by providing guidance to parents on how to start the difficult conversation with their children about their terminal cancer diagnosis. By encouraging families to maintain an open and honest dialogue, children avoid internalising questions, worries or fears, and are better able to create valuable moments & memories with their dying parent.

26,900
parents with dependent children die each year in the UK, leaving behind 46,300 bereaved children.
