Schools Programme
About the Programme
Our fully funded training is designed for education professionals working in schools. The programme provides the knowledge and confidence needed to support children and young people whose parents or caregivers have been diagnosed with incurable cancer. This training will assist schools to consider and develop a whole school approach to the support children need.

What We Do & Why
We adopt a systemic approach to supporting families facing pre-bereavement
In addition to our Family Support Service and the “No Conversation is Too Tough” training for healthcare professionals, we now offer this essential training programme for schools. By focusing on key systems in a child or young person’s life, we aim to provide a holistic approach to support that can make a lasting difference.
Why is This Important?
Each day in the UK, 127 children experience the loss of a parent*
Each day in the UK, 127 children experience the loss of a parent (Childhood Bereavement Network, 2022). Many of these bereavements are anticipated, leading to anticipatory grief, which can deeply affect a child’s emotional and psychological well-being. Pre-bereavement training is essential for those working in schools to support children and young people during this time.
It helps school staff build confidence in having difficult conversations and recognising the emotional challenges that can impact academic performance and well-being. Without proper support, these challenges can lead to disengagement and poor academic outcomes.

Programme Launch & Next Steps
The training will start in September 2025. Due to significant interest, we are now accepting expressions of interest for consideration in phase 2 of the pilot programme or for those who wish to be among the first to join the full rollout.
Our two-stage training programme equips participants with the knowledge and skills to support a child or young person whose parent has an incurable cancer. By completing this programme, participants will gain the confidence and skills to provide compassionate, effective support to children and young people during one of the most challenging times in their lives.
