Microsoft Miles in Partnership with Lenovo

Microsoft and Lenovo aim to raise £40,000 though Microsoft Miles

On the 16th of June, employees from both Microsoft and Lenovo will take on the Microsoft Miles fundraising walk in partnership with Lenovo to support the Ruth Strauss Foundation. Microsoft Miles is a half marathon walk from Paddington to Lord’s Cricket Ground, taking in sights of London on the way. Starting at the Microsoft Paddington office and finishing at Lord’s, just in time for the Middlesex v Kent T20 cricket fixture.

The funds raised from the Walk will be invested by the Ruth Strauss Foundation to create an interactive digital programme that will educate young people around the emotional challenges of a parent dying.

Microsoft employee, Sam Taylor, who has been supporting on the development of the Microsoft Miles walk, highlighted why she got involved.

I volunteered at #RedforRuth in 2022 after my best friend was diagnosed with cancer. I couldn't imagine ever losing her, let alone what the impact would be on her family. RSF's work is so critical and fills a gap that can make a huge difference to families at the worst time in their life. It seemed logical to continue that support by raising money for RSF with my team at Microsoft which has led to the creation of Microsoft Miles. The event will bring teams together across Microsoft whilst also raising funds for a fantastic cause. Since Covid and with tough economic conditions impacting budgets; we have had less opportunity to come together face to face. I personally really enjoy making new connections in 3D and I am so pleased that the partner I manage, Lenovo, also wanted to support and be a part of this new, hopefully annual event.

In total 85 employees from Microsoft and Lenovo will take on the half marathon walk in June, with a team target of raising £20,000. These funds will be then matched by Microsoft and Lenovo to generate £40,000 for the Ruth Strauss Foundation. The money raised will be invested into developing an interactive digital programme that will educate young people around the emotional challenges of a parent dying.

"We are grateful for the ongoing and growing support from Microsoft (employees) and their partners. Our mission resonates with so many, with cancer sadly impacting so many of our lives. It is thus truly humbling to be joining forces with an organisation and team who are committed to making a meaningful difference to people’s lives – both through their technology and CSR activities, and who are helping us transform the support families receive when a parent faces an incurable diagnosis. Thank you Team for going the extra Mile in support of our cause!
