The Ride for Ruth Route

Starting in south London, the route threads its way out of the city via some of its most iconic green spaces. Riders roll through Hyde Park and Richmond Park. Leaving London behind, the route heads south-west through quieter suburban roads before opening up into the lanes of Surrey. Villages such as East Horsley, Shere, and Abinger mark the gateway to the Surrey Hills, a National Landscape and the heart of the ride. The terrain becomes more undulating as the route crosses the Greensand Ridge, with classic Surrey climbs woven between wooded descents and rolling farmland. A standout ascent comes at Green Dene from East Horsley, a steady, leg-testing climb that rewards smooth pacing and marks a clear shift into hillier terrain. From the Surrey Hills, the route continues south through quiet rural roads and classic English countryside. The closing kilometres guide riders towards the historic town of Arundel, finishing on the scenic lawns of Arundel Castle Cricket Ground. With refreshment stops every 30–35 km, the route is well supported throughout, allowing riders to focus on the ride, the scenery, and the journey from city streets to one of the south coast’s most iconic landmarks.
