All Aboard Shops: Grant Support
Making a Difference in Families' Lives
Our Journey with All Aboard
Founded in 1987, All Aboard Shops are a chain of 21 charity shops in London and Manchester, that raise funds for UK registered charities.
We have been working with All Aboard since 2021. During that time, we have been able to develop a wide range of resources, designed to support families facing the death of a parent.
When a charity like ours starts out, there are always fundraising challenges. From funding our statutory governance registration fees with the Charity Commission and Fundraising Regulator levy, to the programmes we aim to fund such as GP awareness programmes on non-smoking lung cancer (NSLC). That is why support from charities like All Aboard are so important to helping us reach our fundraising goals and continue to provide family support.
Our Family Support Resources
Each year 46,300 children under the age of 18 face the death of a parent in the UK – that means around 46,300 children are bereaved each year. That’s why we specialise in family support. Providing families with counselling sessions, alongside training for health care professionals.
Another way we support families is through supplying helpful resources. In collaboration with The Little C Club, they have created flash cards to aid parents in conversation with their children surrounding diagnosis, treatment, emotions and more. We have also created a workbook titled This is About You and Me. The workbook has been specially written to help communicate difficult information to children when a parent or primary caregiver has incurable cancer. It is designed particularly for use with children aged from 4-14 years old. Designed to be filled in by a parent and child working closely together, his workbook provides the opportunity for a valuable shared experience.
Both resources are interactive and are there so families can have additional support outside of our sessions. The All-Aboard’s group of charity shops helped to fund these so we can make them available to the public free of charge.
Who Supports Us?
The England Cricket team has been a champion for families facing incurable cancer, supporting us at our flagship event, #RedforRuth since 2019. We have ignited a powerful partnership against helping families facing the death of a parent and improving outcomes for those with non-smoking lung cancer.
We have thousands of individual donors who support us every year. Not only at #RedforRuth, which is our biggest event of the year, but at many of our other events. Some of our amazing partners have come on board with our mission to help raise more funds so we can increase our impact. Our charity has also receive grants from trusts, foundations, and other charities that you can learn more about below.
Expressing our Gratitude
We’re thankful for our donors and funders who help us support families during tough times. Whether it’s a parent with an incurable cancer diagnosis or navigating the complexities of non-smoking lung cancer research, your support means a lot to us.
We know there is so much more to do – but thanks to the incredible support we receive, we know that as we move into 2024 and beyond, we can extend our work and help even more families.
Thank you for helping us make a difference.
